Work with us!

Post-Doctoral Scholars

We will be hiring 1-2 post-doctoral scholars in summer or fall 2025 to work on the intersection of human moral & conceptual cognition and AI. Please contact Anna (aleshins@uci.edu) to express interest, including a cover letter and CV. Applicants should have a background in cognitive science and an interest in AI interpretability, with strengths in research project design and leadership, collaboration and mentorship, and python skills for working with research code repositories and with large language models. ML experience not required, but familiarity with probabilistic programming and methods in neural network interpretability a plus.

You will be working on a grant-funded project from the AI Safety Science program to develop experiments and interpretable computational models of morally guided decision-making and conceptual combinatorial thought in humans and large language models. You will also have time to develop your own research directions within the scope of the lab. Salaries commensurate with experience and according to UC salary scales. Hybrid and on-site options available.

We are currently seeking senior researchers for post-doctoral positions in the lab and junior researchers for lab technician positions.

Lab Technician (post-bacc)

We are recruit a full-time lab technician to help build software and run experiments in the lab. This position requires strong facility with python, unix, and github. You will write experiment and analysis code, and assemble open-source code repositories into projects workflows with best-practices baked in. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of research projects in the lab, attend conferences, and contribute to publications. Research projects include experiments in large language models and fMRI experiments with humans. This is a unique role for those interested jointly studying human brains and artificial neural networks. Interest or background in mechanistic interpretability and AI alignment is a plus. Opportunities to pursue independent research projects and receive mentoring towards graduate school applications or other research roles will be provided. Please contact Anna (aleshins@uci.edu) directly to express interest.

Other Collaborators

Please reach out to us if you are an independent researcher interested in developing a research project or grant together within the themes of our lab.

Undergraduate Research Assistants

At the moment, we do not have more undergraduate positions but please feel welcome to express your interest using this form. We will connect with you when we have openings.

Graduate Students

Currently enrolled UCI graduate students interested in collaborating or taking on summer research projects are welcome to contact the lab.
